i've been wondering how the RP would flow with dedicated battles and such, since CP is a factor. But that takes a lot of control away from the players in shaping the story themselves. So i just thought of adding an "encounter-break" command. so pretty much even when there are enemies around or a massive battle, the RP runs entirely like any free form RP. you can narrate your character's actions and such without worrying at all about the stat system or CP or anything. However you cant gain any experience from kills your character makes in narrative mode.
so basically think of "battle" mode as something you can switch on and off at will no matter whats going on. So if your character is an AEC Heavy you can have him running all over the place doing stuff (but of course keeping his heavy weight in mind for the sake of the story) and when you want to properly engage an enemy just switch to battle mode and then follow the regular system.
if the players decide to make a retreat you can use "encounter-break" to leave battle mode and once again rely solely on narrative. This will come at a CP cost plus i might add some other penalties just to keep the strategy interesting.
so in short players who dont want a rigid stat driven game can just free form it (more or less) through most of the RP. Otherwise the depth is there for people who wanna be all "hardcoar!" >=o
just a thought...

I think this is an excellent idea. It leaves a whole lot of awesome available for characters. The only problem that I can forsee with a system like this is the possibility that someone may abuse the privelage. What I mean is say... say you're up against a ton of hard enemies that you know will floor you if you try to take them in Battle Mode. This gives them opportunity to Encounter Break in order to avoid death, KO, whatever. Which, really, is fine and dandy. Sometimes things are out of a person's control, but the cool thing about this is that a scripted system doesn't really allow for too much creativity as far as "There's a million to one against shot at me making it out of here alive." With Encounter Break you can have really creative players going "I like those odds. ~killkillkill~"
