I gave them a shot....I really did. Listened to Bat Country, beast and the harlott, and afterlife
i closed my eyes so i wouldnt see all the mascara and douche baggery going on in the videos, and told myself to pretend it was the new material from Pelican or Kyuss or something. Didnt work. I just really really cant stand this music XD
All due props to the guitarists though, they have their chops about them and even though they dont have any riffs that i can really sink my teeth into, they have some cool stuff and the solos and guitar harmonies are quite nifty. I think the MAIN problem with them is the singer. If he was out of the picture i could totally see myself maybe getting into their music. But god he is terrible. Not terrible in that he cant sing, but he just sounds so god damned cheesy and uninspired. Its like his entire musical education was stuff like Limp Bizkit or P.O.D--all bands with cheesy ass vocals trying too hard to sound macho while catering to the soccer moms and their prepubescent sons listening to the "rock" stations on the radio. His lyrics are just as terrible. god.....just....fucking...awful >.<
So replace the singer or just go instrumental and you have a band i might actually dig, sure they have way too much pop going on in their metal but even then i have a very broad taste outside of my beloved stoner metal--its just that it only extends to artists i feel have true musical integrity and such (or just speak to me somehow)

Well, you have to listen to the right song, too. Those aren't really good first impression songs. Try... Betrayed, or Gunslinger. Trashed and Scattered. Sieze the Day.

phew well that was interesting. Betrayed and Gunslinger were markedly better than my first impressions, but to me it sounded like pretty standard fare stuff. The singer managed to not be annoying, he's even good when he doesnt sound like a pro wrestler XD the others though, especially Trashed and Scattered.... i mean i was really digging the stuff syn was playing on the leads but again there were no friggin riffs to get hooked on aside from some stuff during the breakdown about 4:30 in or something. and the vocals..... they just arent my thing. if i had been introduced to them years ago then maybe. In the end (and this is just MY opinion) its a lot of really really good talent being used to write girl-oriented shred rock. pfeh...
