What are some lyrics that really resonate with you? Post them here! You can post full lyrics if you want or just snippets that really stand out to you. I'll start off, of course...
For my first post i think i'll focus on a particular album. Mastodon's Crack the Skye absolutely blows my mind. The Imagery is haunting and beautiful, and the concept (both literal and metaphorical) is very heavy stuff. I guess to help put this stuff in context i'll quickly go over the concept. Taken literally, the story is is about a fully paralyzed boy who's only form of movement is astral travel--he's able to transcend his material body and fly freely among the stars. He flies too close to the sun, burning out his organs and severing the golden umbilical chord that holds him to the material self and he goes of on an epic journey. The entirety of Crack the Skye was composed by Brent Hinds after he came out of his coma--so yeah you can connect the dots
Anyway here are some parts that stick out to me
The chorus from "Oblivion":
Falling from grace cause I've been away too long
Leaving you behind with my lonesome song
Now I'm lost in Oblivion
from the song "Divinations":
The fire is dancing in a silvery sheet of breath
Black robe
Necromancing
Summon the soul of the spectre
from "The Czar"
Spiraling up through the crack in the sky
Leaving the material world behind
I see your face in constellations
The martyr is ending his life for mine
various sections of "The Last Baron"
"I guess they would say
We could set this world ablaze"
"Take my black soul
Alive in the fires that burn my skin"
"All that I have seen,
Standing on the edge,
The foot of precipice.
Floating in the sea,
Past the King of Swords,
Quickly to the shore."
"Ghost of man surrounds me in my slumber
I have no fear as your wing is my shelter"
and I love the lyrics at the end of "baron" (final track) that connect back to "oblivion" (opening track)
in Oblivion:
I flew byond the sun before it was time
Burning all the gold that held me inside my shell
Waiting for you to pull me back in
I almost had the world in my sight
and then Baron:
I was standing staring at the world
And I can't see it
I was standing staring at the world
I still can't see it
Love everything about this album. This shit gives me shivers
