first of all, i love how this part of the forum has become like my private gear blog to masturbate about guitar related stuff that dig XD
So there a firggin TONS of pickups to choose from out there. You have heavyweights like Seymour Duncan and Dimarzio who have been making legendary pickups for decades and continue to make new models and get more and mroe artist endorsements. Its a crazy market out there where people fret over resistance, magnet type, number of poles, and number of coils.
To top it all off we also have this active vs passive thing going on. oh boy! XD
Now I love my actives to death and back. They are lush and full and beautiful all while bringing heaviness so intense that the skies rain boulders on the populace. I know...Woot, right? But then i plug in my nifty little stratocaster with its s/s/h configuration (single coils in the neck and middle and a bucker in the bridge)--all passive. I can reach a whole new level of beautiful with these puppies. Cleans that sound really delicate and precise, dirt that has a rounded top end for that old school vibe. I can still sound all uber heavy if i want to, just in a very different way.
so i guess thats my take on the matter. Why limit yourself? In the future when this place is crawling with little musician nooblets I hope to get some input and discussion on the subject. Nerding out: its what RaShay's do best! :B
