So GOW3 is coming out in early 2010 and of course its going to be sex, but what if you want to replay the first two titles in this HD era where backwards compatibility is pretyt iffy?
tada! Sony is releasing the first two for 40 bucks on a single blu-ray disc! The games now run in 720p resolution at 60 frames per second. I'm not sure if they'll be running in 16:9 widescreen but that would be pretty cool (of course the FMV's would still be 4:3 regardless)
If this becomes a trend for Sony, i can imagine many ps2 era classics being "remastered" for the new console. Do you guys think this is a better alternative to full backwards compatibility? Is BC even a concern for you when buying an HD console? Personally i think its cool i got one of the BC enabled ps3 models (the MGS4 bundle, which uses software emulation for ps2 games. earlier models had an actual ps2 chipset inside. now no models have BC), but i BARELY use it for playing older titles. Honestly with so many groundbreaking IP's coming out so often, i find my time consumed with current titles.
There are still a lot of people though who bitch and complain about the lack of commitment to BC this generation, so i wonder what they think about the prospect of playing improved versions of their games.

I heard sex... >_> Wait, love AND war? zOMG, the PS3 really DOES do everything...
Backwards compatibility should, IMO, be a requirement. When I tried to play Shadow of the Colossus on a friend's PS3, I was sorely disappointed when it wouldn't work. We found out he got one of the models that didn't. FML, or rather, his. Anyway, a console shouldn't leave behind its great games of the past, and it definitely shouldn't make you buy revamps just to play a classic on your new system- an option, I say, but there's still no guarantee the games you are looking to play were well enough received to be remade. If the XBOX 360 had the same issue, I'd be rather sad if I couldn't play Phantom Dust on my 360 (not that I have one, but hypothetically). I don't quite know how to phrase what I'm trying to say in a more basic form... Just more or less along the lines of: Improved is good, but BC should still be readily available.

i cant really agree with "Bc should be a given" shit if i wanna play ps2 games i have like TWO ps2's. people who didnt have the previous Sony console and say they wont buy ps3 because it lacks BC need to check their anal cavaties for dildos. just my opinion

That's a valid point, and the major flaw in my argument. The only thing I can really say is that not everyone will have an old system, due to whatever various reason... And, overall, I think it's a given that BC would make for happier fans.
*checks anal cavities* Just an old salami sandwich in here, no dildos... *chewchewswallow*

There's nothing wrong with God of War.
It's not the best game ever, but it's enjoyable. I liked Prince of Persisa better, but whatever. XD God of War gets thumbs, yo.

XD God of War gets thumbs, yo. thats a weird comparison to make O.o i love both franchises but wouldn't try comparing them. They are too different in every way. i think the Prince trilogy from last generation should get the re-release treatment as well! Man i loved those games, especially the much hated on Warrior Within

so how does the god of war collection compare to the ps2 versions? here's a picture of naked chicks with huge tits to help you compare! The top screenshot is from the ps2 version running on a ps3, bottom is the ps3 specific one btw it would seem breast implants were already around in acient Greece. God bless those scholars ^_^ Attachments:

just got this today and played the first level from god of war 1 for kicks. The boobs are certainly rendered very sharply. One thing that sucks is while the in game graphics are balls out nifty the real-time cinematics are still ps2 quality. Which is weird....the FMV's are somehow sharper though.
but man. The GOW3 demo is all sorts of fuck awesome! Marjan watched me play it and the whole time we were going "ohooooo!" at whatever super brutal finishing move Kratos was doing next. Our favorite was yanking a cyclopse's eyeball out. Very graphic and fun. Also ripping a chimera's horn off and impaling it through the face is neat. Gotta love GOW. they will push the comic brutality to spiraling heights just because they can. =)

Looking forward to it! I played and finished the last two and can't wait for the third. I also hope a new DMC game (i.e. DMC 5) will come out in the future. I'm also looking forward to Bayonetta. All three games are kinda the same.
