Thread title says it all. Hands down the greatest band on the face of your mom! The first time I heard the Leviathan album my life took a sudden turn for the better, I was introduced to the world of stoner metal and it forever changed the way i listen to music and play guitar.
my much loved SG Custom Prophecy is autographed by these guys for good reason! Brent Hinds is a god among men when it comes to guitarists or just musical visionaries. Anyone who listens to my own riffs will probably instantly hear the Mastodon influence (as well as High on Fire, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Slayer, on and on and on...)
I think Crack the Skye is a beautiful masterpiece of an album that will be mentioned alongside all the other prog classics years from now. I will definitely make sure my kids grow up knowing who these guys are.
any Mastodon love here?

*pokes head in* What's this? Hmm? Extinct elephantine creatures? Meh, not interested... *saunters out*
Honestly though, I've not heard much anything by these folk, but I'll give 'em a try when I wake up. Going to crash now. XD

yeah its pretty funny when i ask people about Mastodon. They're like the freaking celebrities of the metal world right now, admired by the musicians because these guys are really revolutionizing the genre. They were nominated for a Grammy for the song "Colony of Birchmen" but lost to Slayer's "Through the Eyes of the Insane". Their Blood Mountain album won like every music magazine's "album of the year" award or made it pretty high on similar lists. They played at the MTV awards, which is a pretty mainstream event. Yet the mainstream has no earthly idea who these guys are XD
i guess now that they have a bunch of songs on Rock Band and Guitar Hero more people will find out about them

Seriously, Shay, I don't connect with metal as much as you do. ^^ Only when it's clean and specific nuances of the melodies speak to my soul. As often happens with Avenged Sevenfold. Which reminds me. ~plays Avenged Sevenfold~
